21.12.2024 MIRS opens.
- 12 December 2024
In the year of the 100th anniversary of the first radio broadcast in Italy, and 150 years after the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, MIRS – the Interactive Museum of Radio and Society – opened in Pasiano di Pordenone in Friuli Venezia Giulia on 21 December 2024. The exhibition promises to be one of the key radio museums not only in north-east Italy but in the entire country because of its unique offering.
“We’re delighted to finally be opening the doors to this new museum, after a long road to get here. The idea came from the local authorities, as a way of creating value from an exceptional donation of over 400 radios from a collection owned by Pier Giorgio Vendramin, a local researcher from Pasiano. The collection is truly astonishing in terms of the variety of features and forms of radio, which can all now come alive thanks to modern technology, transforming the museum into an interactive experience exploring history, local customs and society.” The Mayor, Marta Amadio
The new MIRS will offer more than a simple exhibition to indulge nostalgia, and instead will accompany historical radios with experiment points, educational workshops, and informative and interactive resources, illustrating how the invention of the radio transformed our society. And how it continues to do so.
